Mountain banjo styles & labor-rights movements
Brett Ratliff teaches and performs traditional Appalachian musical styles and repertoire both at home and abroad, with an emphasis on mountain banjo styles and labor-rights movements. Born and raised in Van Lear, KY, he has contributed to more than a dozen recordings, including for Smithsonian Folkways, June Appal Recordings, and Oxford American Magazine; and, as founding President of Kentucky Old-Time Music, Inc., has worked for more than twenty years as a community arts organizer throughout East Kentucky. Ratliff also serves as Arts Organization Director for the Kentucky Arts Council supporting arts non-profit organizations across the Commonwealth.
